Thousands participate in Light the Night Walk

The Light the Night Walk is the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s biggest fundraiser of the year. More than 5,000 people came to Nissan Stadium Friday night for the 6th annual walk, to help bring attention to the cause.

Musician and star of “Nashville,” Charles Esten welcomed the crowd, and shared that the cause is personal to him.  His daughter Addie was diagnosed with Leukemia when she was just two and a half.  She won her battle, and Esten thanked the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for helping.

“Our doctor told us your child has Leukemia, and here is what we are going to do,” said Esten. “She told us that because of years of research and fundraising that had already occurred.”

Participants carried lanterns in honor of those who have lost their battle with cancer, and in support of those who are still fighting, and for survivors. They walked from Nissan Stadium into downtown Nashville as their red, yellow and white lanterns lit up the dark sky.

The night concluded with fireworks and a concert by Esten and Kellie Pickler, among others.

Held simultaneously in more than 200 cities across the country, the Light the Night Walk raises money tht will patients by offsetting the cost of co-pays, medical treatments and travel assistance.
